Description
The working respiratory group of the Spanish Pediatric Intensive Care Society (SECIP) has developed, during the last thirteen years, many workshops and courses for clinicians and nurses to spread NIV use among its members. In 2012, a European NIV course with many NIV experts and members of the ESPNIC respiratory group started. The main objective of this program is to provide comprehensive knowledge of this technique and guarantee that attendees achieve appropriate skills to implement in their Units.
This course will provide a previous online theoretical basis for NIV care. Reading Dr. Medina‘s book “NIV in Pediatrics” in the previous month of the course is recommended. The second edition is available online for free. The third edition is available at the non-profit organization Invest for Children, which promotes our project of spreading the NIV technique all over the world. Main chapters and lectures based on the third edition will be available online. The e-learning contents must be read, and an online exam is mandatory to attend the face-to-face phase. All the attendees will receive an attendance certificate, but passing the skills exam and the second online exam after the in-person phase is mandatory to obtain a certificate of approval.
At the end of the course, you should be able to select the best option among all the possibilities and to develop appropriate protocols adapted to your Unit.
A secondary objective of this course is to recruit local NIV clinical champions willing to become trainers and committed to organizing NIV courses in several European countries.
To maintain a high level of quality and homogeneity among the different future courses, those pediatric intensivists or anesthesiologists with clinical experience in NIV who are interested in becoming NIV trainers of these ESPNIC NIV courses are requested to pass this course and an additional specific NIV trainer’s course.
This course will be available in Spanish and English. You will be able to select your preferred modality at the time of registration
