Innovation and Patient Safety: Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona Children's Hospital Simulation team stands out at the 12th SESSEP Congress

Jordi Clotet receives the award for best presentation for his talk on a SIMTest in an ultra-complex procedure.

SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital Simulation team had a remarkable participation in the 12th Congress of the Spanish Society for Clinical Simulation and Patient Safety (SESSEP), held in Málaga from March 27 to 29. This event served as a key platform for sharing advancements, experiences, and innovations in clinical simulation to enhance patient safety and healthcare professional training.

One of the highlights of the congress was the recognition of Jordi Clotet Caba, a neonatologist at SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital, who, for the second consecutive year, received the award for best presentation. This time, he was honored for his talk titled "SIMTest ECMO: Preventing Critical Incidents in an Ultra-Complex Procedure." In his presentation, he demonstrated how SIMTests—one of the main areas of clinical simulation at SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital—help analyze and optimize processes, spaces, and healthcare teams to improve clinical safety and enhance the experience of patients, families, and professionals.

During his talk, Clotet delved into this valuable methodology, emphasizing its role in evaluating work environments, protocols, and teams to identify risks and refine healthcare delivery. In the previous edition of the congress, Clotet had already been recognized for his presentation on the simulation of the surgical separation process of conjoined twins, a project he was able to elaborate on in greater detail during this year's event.

In addition to this recognition, the team presented several talks on the application of simulation in areas such as neonatal care, healthcare social work, technological updates in ECMO, and improving communication with patients and families. Practical workshops were also held, such as "Emotions in Action: Leading Clinical Simulation with Emotional Intelligence" and "The Moulage Workshop That’s Not the Same Old Moulage Workshop," where new ways of recreating clinical situations with a high level of realism were explored.
