SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital recognized as a leader in health education innovation at the HELIX Summit 2025

Over 300 professionals from 24 countries participated in the HELIX International Congress to advance the transformation of continuing education in healthcare.

SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital was one of the key participants at the HELIX Summit 2025, contributing its vision as a member of the Organizing Committee and presenting relevant initiatives throughout the Congress. In addition, the Hospital was honored with the award for the Most Inspiring Learning Experience, alongside prestigious institutions such as WHO Academy, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and the Institute for the Future of Education at Tecnológico de Monterrey. This recognition positions the Hospital as an international benchmark in health education innovation.

The HELIX Summit 2025, held from May 13 to 16 in Barcelona and Manresa, brought together healthcare professionals, educators, and organizations from around the world with a common purpose: to transform continuing health education through innovative learning experiences. Under the theme “Driving innovative learning experiences to improve people's health”, HELIX has established itself as a key forum where emerging methodologies, disruptive technologies, and transformative proposals converge to address the major challenges in the healthcare sector.

As part of the Pre-Summit, held on May 13, the Hospital hosted an international group of health sector organizations — including hospitals, universities, and companies — to showcase its learning model and tour some of its most significant spaces from a training perspective. The visit was framed under the concept “Learning to re-evolve in a hospital: a journey toward transformation and adaptation to change.”

During the visit, some of the Hospital’s most impactful training initiatives were presented, focusing on the development of relational skills, the use of SIMTests as a tool for improving care processes and environments, and the innovative eKardio pediatric cardiology training. These projects demonstrate how innovation applied to continuing education drives both professional and organizational transformation.

The participation of professionals from SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital was especially active and well-received throughout the Congress. Carmen de la Gala, Head of Training, and Dr. José M. Quintillá, Head of the Simulation Unit, gave a talk focused on the Hospital’s initiatives in health education innovation. Additionally, three presentations were delivered addressing the Hospital’s competency-based nursing education model, the development of relational skills, and the use of SIMTest as a methodology for organizational learning. The Hospital also took part in co-creation sessions using design thinking methodologies, sharing experiences such as the development of online training and clinical simulation in complex care processes. The closing day featured a talk by Manel del Castillo, Managing Director of the Hospital, who reflected on the major challenges currently facing healthcare systems in his session “Challenges and transformation of healthcare systems.”

The first edition of the HELIX Summit has concluded as a leading international platform for rethinking health education through collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to advance the transformation of continuing education in healthcare.
