Immune Dysregulation Workshop draws strong international participation in its third edition

CosmoCaixa and Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona Children’s Hospital hosted the 3rd Immune Dysregulation Workshop: From Basics to Clinics to Advanced Therapies, a leading scientific meeting that brought together international experts to discuss the latest advances in the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of immune dysregulation disorders.

Held from 17 to 19 December in a hybrid format, the Immune Dysregulation Workshop took place within the framework of the Centre of Excellence in Immunology (CIS-UB), an initiative promoted by Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona Children’s Hospital, Hospital Clínic de Barcelona and the University of Barcelona. The strong interest generated by this third edition was reflected in the high level of international participation, with more than 80 professionals attending on-site and over 300 joining online, from hospitals and research centres around the world. These figures consolidate the workshop as a leading international forum in the field of clinical and translational immunology.

Over the course of three days, the scientific programme addressed immune dysregulation in a comprehensive manner, ranging from the basic mechanisms of immune system regulation to clinical applications and advanced therapies. Key topics included regulatory T-cell (Treg)-based therapies, thymic transplantation, gene therapy, CAR-T therapies for autoimmune and paediatric diseases, as well as the manufacturing of advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) under GMP conditions.

The workshop featured internationally renowned speakers from institutions such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the United States, the Francis Crick Institute in the United Kingdom, Weill Cornell Medical College in the United States, the San Raffaele Institute in Italy and Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital in Italy, alongside leading national experts from Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona Children’s Hospital, Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, IDIBAPS and other centres of excellence.

The third day also included an on-site technical workshop at the SJD–Clínic Advanced Therapies Platform, focused on the production of advanced therapy medicinal products and a guided visit to the facilities, reinforcing the training-oriented, practical and translational nature of the meeting.

This event forms part of the ongoing activity of the Centre of Excellence in Immunology (CIS-UB), whose mission is to promote research, training and clinical excellence in immunology, fostering strong links between basic research, clinical practice and innovative therapies. The high level of participation and international interest confirm the role of Barcelona and the CIS-UB as leading references in the management of complex immunological diseases.
