SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital promotes the training of executives to lead the healthcare management of the future

Healthcare systems are experiencing a period of profound transformation driven by structural challenges related to sustainability, equity, organization, and the need to respond to new social demands. In this context, SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital, in collaboration with Inusual, has held the first edition of the course The Future of Healthcare Organizations, a strategic training program aimed at executives and healthcare professionals seeking to understand, anticipate, and lead the changes the system requires.

This inaugural edition, held between November 2025 and January 2026 in a blended format, combined strategic reflection with practical application and concluded with an immersive in-person session at SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital. The experience was designed to examine, from an organizational perspective, how healthcare institutions can evolve to respond to an increasingly complex and demanding environment.

A strategic, rigorous, and change-oriented training program

The course, led by Manel del Castillo, Chief Executive Officer of SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital and a leading figure in hospital management in Spain, offered participants a comprehensive and practical view of the main challenges facing the healthcare system. It addressed both the reforms needed to ensure its sustainability and the evolving roles of patients, professionals, and public administrations in a context that demands deeper organizational and cultural change.

Throughout the program, special emphasis was placed on management grounded in equity, efficiency, and effectiveness, combining strategic analysis with an examination of the transformation process undertaken by SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital as a case study. This was complemented by practical micro-management tools designed for immediate application in the participants’ professional environments.

In-person session: a high-impact experience

The program concluded with an immersive in-person session held at SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital, offering participants an intensive, first-hand exploration of the main areas that currently concentrate the greatest challenges in hospital management. Throughout the session, the strategic vision guiding the hospital’s transformation and organizational evolution was shared, with a particular focus on patient experience, process-based management, value-based healthcare, digital transformation, and fundraising as a lever for social impact.

The session was complemented by visits to key areas such as the PICU, the Surgical Block, the Family Space, and the Còrtex Clinical Command Center, where participants were able to see how technology, data, and spatial design can contribute to more efficient, integrated, and person-centered care. It was an experience that connected strategic reflection with real-world practice and provided deeper insight into a model of healthcare management grounded in purpose, innovation, and commitment to the community.

A shared space for discussion among executive profiles

One of the most notable aspects of this first edition was the high professional caliber of the participants. Hospital managers, medical directors, department heads, innovation leaders, and executives from leading companies in the health sector took part, representing public hospitals, healthcare organizations, and prominent biomedical companies.

This diversity of perspectives enriched the discussion and the exchange of experiences, establishing the course as a shared space for reflection on the changes the healthcare system will need to address in the coming years.

Commitment to the future of healthcare

After the positive reception of this first edition, El Futuro de las Organizaciones Sanitarias will continue in 2026 with new cohorts, maintaining a methodological approach that combines online learning, live sessions, and ongoing interaction with the teaching team, with the option to complete the experience through an immersive in-person session.
The next confirmed editions are:

  • 2nd edition: April 14 to May 22, 2026
  • 3rd edition: September 15 to October 23, 2026

With this initiative, SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital and Inusual strengthen their commitment to developing leaders capable of driving real transformation in healthcare organizations, integrating innovation, efficiency, and human values. The Future of Healthcare Organizations is thus consolidating its position as a training space designed to rethink the system and advance toward a more sustainable, equitable, and person-centered healthcare model.
