The practice of nuclear medicine imaging in sick children is different from that in adults. Paediatric nuclear medicine practice refers to examinations done in babies, young children, and teenagers. Paediatric oncology nuclear medicine imaging is performed to help diagnose life threatening childhood disorders including cancer. Nuclear medicine imaging techniques are used to evaluate children with cancer that affect organ systems such as the kidney urinary bladder, bones, liver and gallbladder, gastrointestinal tract, heart, lungs, thyroid, and other organs.

Nuclear medicine applications in children require a slightly different level of approach about quality control and safety issues. There is limited expertise in childhood nuclear medicine worldwide.

The event will be conducted in English, so participants should have sufficient proficiency to follow the sessions and express themselves in this language.

The participation in the event will contribute to:

• Understand the principles of pediatric nuclear medicine oncology, identify, and assess pediatric oncology cases responsive to nuclear medicine procedures, and consolidate knowledge on the interpretation of pediatric nuclear medicine oncology images.
• Optimize radiopharmaceutical dosing and administration in paediatric oncology patients, recognize safety considerations in pediatric nuclear medicine oncology.
• Analyze the role of theranostics in pediatric nuclear medicine oncology, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in pediatric nuclear medicine oncology and understand the impact of nuclear medicine findings on treatment decisions.
• Address ethical and psychosocial aspects of pediatric nuclear medicine oncology fostering a patient-centered approach.
